Winter Time

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 3, 2009, 4:59 AM
Ok, so over my Christmas break I've had a bit of time to do some photo-taking. I've been aiming at making use of the great winter sunlight - Scotland is so far north that in winter you get great, low angled singlight nearly all day, giving plenty of nice lighting to work with.
Recently I've been trying to think much more about composition than I have been until now - trying to get past my mind's eye which sees in the viewfinder what I want to see rather than every little detail.
So, to everyone who cares to read this and have a look at the pics I'll be putting up in the next few days - PLEASE BE RUTHLESSLY CRITICAL. If there is the sligthest detail of a photo that you don't like, or it just didn't grab your attention enough, please just give it a comment and say - that is the only way I can do better next time.
Good things to comment on; colour, lighting, composition (anything distracting, not interesting, too weird for you or not weird enough for you etc), and perhaps most importantly does it have that magic feel about it?

Cheers
D

You should try to think about the subject, and what you want to capture.

Dont just think about the beauty of light, for that is completely over done. (this is because i care)

Im looking forward to see those pictures :)

Unless the place and composition is interesting it won't matter how you take it, people won't look. When I'm going through my deviations if it doesn't grab my attention at thumb size then I don't tend to look. When I'm putting up my sunsets etc I try to think if it's interesting enough that people would want to see it hanging on their wall. I admit I've put some up to show people where I've been etc. The main thing is to make the subject interesting to look at then people will notice the lighting etc. Ok so you will always have people on here that will pick every photo apart but sorry, I'm not one of them. You have put up some stunning photos in your gallery but the last 2 I'm wondering 'why'? What did you find interesting about that place? If you used it to practice your lighting etc then I'm not qualified to advise you.
Personally I would like to see some of the stunning views you have up there.
luv
Deb :)
