Update

Mon Apr 20, 2009, 1:12 PM
I've been grossly remiss these past four months in keeping this thing updated, but if anyone is still watching...

Just a month from my final exams at uni now - fouth year has been crazy. Lots of work to be done but also lots of kayaking to cram in before leaving and that hasn't left a lot of time for photos. My mountaineering levels are down this year as well so far so there have been less of the sweeping landscapes and impressive lighting effects above the scottish highlands that I'm mostly recognised for.
When I have had time to get the camera out I've therefore been looking more at detail texture and composition; I'll try to get up the shots I like in the next wee while.

Winter Time

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 3, 2009, 4:59 AM
Ok, so over my Christmas break I've had a bit of time to do some photo-taking. I've been aiming at making use of the great winter sunlight - Scotland is so far north that in winter you get great, low angled singlight nearly all day, giving plenty of nice lighting to work with.
Recently I've been trying to think much more about composition than I have been until now - trying to get past my mind's eye which sees in the viewfinder what I want to see rather than every little detail.
So, to everyone who cares to read this and have a look at the pics I'll be putting up in the next few days - PLEASE BE RUTHLESSLY CRITICAL. If there is the sligthest detail of a photo that you don't like, or it just didn't grab your attention enough, please just give it a comment and say - that is the only way I can do better next time.
Good things to comment on; colour, lighting, composition (anything distracting, not interesting, too weird for you or not weird enough for you etc), and perhaps most importantly does it have that magic feel about it?

Cheers

Hmm...remarkable

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 30, 2008, 4:11 PM
Several remarkable things - I just returned from a trip to Glencoe and Glen Etive (more on this - read on) to find that quite surprisingly I had scored a DD. Yay! :-) That was rather unexpected.
Anyway, the weekend trip was largely perfect - winter has arrived early in the northwest and there was a thick layer of powder snow lying even in the floor of the Glens. The sun was shining, with no clouds whatsoever on saturday and only enough to light the sky magically on the sunday. Snowy mountains, frozen rivers, clear sunlight and nothing to do but take pictures - the results of this weekend should be up quite soon.

Arbitrary Title

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 21, 2008, 10:20 AM
Haven't written anything for a very long time. Haven't taken as prolific amount of photos as I have in the past, but I think that there are one or two good ones waiting to come up. Recently bought a new pc tho', and I'm not totally convinced by the colours I'm seeing on the monitor. Once I'm sure I have it calibrated just the same as my old one I'll get back to this whole uploading lark.
Oh, yes, dissertation time too. Yay. Why am I doing a project on lasers when I haven't studied them since first year?

August Pics

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 31, 2008, 9:00 AM
Photos from august are now ready to go up - may take me a while to get them all on here - in the end I only really got two decent shoots the whole month, but they were whoppers. One I can honestly say was the best shoot I have ever had - I'll let the pics do the talking.
